The Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance helps communities across the state fight hunger and food insecurity. It does this through collaboration, education, advocacy, and practical solutions.
In September 2023, Little Rock hosted the Food Desert Summit to Explore Community Solutions. The event brought community leaders together to discuss better access to healthy, affordable food.
For example, speakers shared several creative approaches used in other communities. They discussed mobile grocery stores that serve rural areas. They also explored financing options for grocery stores in underserved communities.
In addition, speakers discussed partnerships that help small urban markets obtain food. They also shared online ordering and distribution ideas for rural residents.
The summit gave Arkansas leaders an opportunity to consider solutions for their own communities. Kathy Webb helped organize the event through the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance. As a result, leaders from across the state could exchange ideas and build new connections.
Fighting Hunger Across Arkansas
The Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance works far beyond individual events. Today, the organization serves as a statewide voice for hunger relief.
The Alliance works with food banks, food pantries, volunteers, businesses, and community organizations. Together, these partners help provide food and resources to people across Arkansas.
Arkansas has six Feeding America food banks at the heart of this hunger-relief network. These food banks work with local organizations throughout the state.
For instance, they partner with food pantries, shelters, schools, soup kitchens, and other nonprofits. Through these partnerships, food reaches communities where people need it most.
Moreover, the Alliance addresses hunger in several ways. Its programs include nutrition education, SNAP outreach, emergency food resources, and food distribution. The organization also supports advocacy and programs that connect families with fresh, nutritious food.
