Final Overview Report
Introduction
On June 22, 2018, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas hosted TEDxUNLV in the Judy Bayley Theatre. The theme was “Living in the Extreme”, reflecting the increasing volume of information, thousands of lifestyle choices, and the constant connectivity that simultaneously brings people together and pushes them apart. Approximately 350 attendees filled the venue to hear 17 speakers, experience two performances, and engage in thought-provoking discussions throughout the day-long event. Attendees also had the opportunity to interact during extended networking breaks, where they could reflect on the talks and participate in the event experience.
TEDxUNLV 2018 strengthened UNLV’s connection with students, faculty, staff, and the greater community. The event provided students with hands-on experience in major event production, adding valuable skills to their resumes. It also attracted new volunteers and donors, broadening the university’s network and impact.

Student Impact
UNLV students played a vital role in TEDxUNLV 2018, gaining firsthand experience in event management and production. Several students worked behind the scenes in key roles, supporting logistics, technical operations, and audience engagement.
Students filled essential volunteer roles, helping coordinate the event and manage logistics.
The Grad Slam presentations, featuring UNLV graduate students, showcased academic research in an accessible and engaging format.

Community Impact
TEDxUNLV 2018 drew strong engagement from the local community, attracting attendees and volunteers who may not have previously interacted with UNLV. The Partnership for Community Enrichment played a key role in the event’s organization, with four of its board members serving on the main committee.
